Baptism is Normal Christianity
Jesus identified baptism as a defining action for all of his followers when he said: 'Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you' (Matt 28:19,20 NIV). Paul’s comments to the Roman believers also show us that baptism was a definitive part of life in the early Christian community: We were... buried with him [Jesus] through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life (Rom 6:3,4 NIV).
We believe that a more helpful translation of the Greek word 'baptizo' is the word ‘immerse’. Throughout Greek literature, baptizo means to put something or someone within and under something else. So to be baptised in water actually means to be fully immersed in water. God loves to work through the 'stuff' of his creation to encounter his children. Baptism is a beautiful and significant act of obedience that says: I want to be saturated with Jesus!
If you have not yet experienced immersion into Jesus the Messiah and would like to pursue this, please contact us. New Life currently celebrates Baptisms twice a year, with opportunities typically provided in March and November.
Parents in New Life have the opportunity to come and present their children before God and to publicly dedicate themselves to the God-given responsibilities of parenthood. The child dedication event does not give these children a proverbial 'foot in the door' of heaven. It is about parents committing to raise their children in a Christ-centred way in the context of Christian community, asking for God's blessing as they do so. We know that God is committed to bless parents and their children who love and obey Him (e.g. Exodus 34:6-8; Deuteronomy 30:11-20).
Marriage Prep / Weddings
New Life Christian Community is committed to helping couples develop a healthy marriage relationship so that it will be enjoyable and will endure through life's storms. Marriage is highly valued as a gift from God and as a prophetic picture of the intimacy between Jesus and the people of God (Eph 5:31-32). We uphold the Biblical pattern that marriage is an exclusive intimate relationship between a man and a woman and is intended to last for a lifetime. We believe the example to follow is that which we see displayed in Jesus and his bride (the people who love and obey him).
Couples wishing to be married can participate in marriage preparation sessions designed to strengthen the understanding and practice of the essential ingredients needed to develop a healthy, enjoyable and enduring marriage. These sessions can also include arranging the legal documents and the details for a personalised wedding ceremony.
Funerals are a time to honour and celebrate those who have passed away. We can offer support for people negotiating funeral arrangements and services.
