Our Story So Far

onearthasinheavendrone

New Life Christian Community (NLCC) is part of the church in Fremantle, and was born in September 1997. Wayne and Julie Hollett planted NLCC with a desire to see every person in Fremantle transformed by Jesus Christ and to see the city marked by passion for God and compassion for people. NLCC began in a living room with 8 families (15 adults and 12 children). Since December 2016 we have been gathering each Sunday at Fremantle Christian College. Our Prayer Room, the heart of our community, began in 2005 and continues to run throughout the week in South Fremantle. Wayne is a core leader in the Fremantle Pastors Network, which represents local churches working together for the good of the city. Fremantle Christian College and Jubilee Welfare Fund are two key ministries that God has birthed through NLCC to serve the city.

DNA: We Are Pursuing

Christlikeness: Passion for God, Compassion for People

Passion for God - Matt. 22:37-38
Compassion for people - Matt. 22:39; 1 John 4:11; Gal. 5:14

CHRISTLIKENESS EXPRESSED THROUGH:

OBEDIENCE TO GOD'S WORD

Jesus taught his followers that obedience to God’s Word was the proof of their love for him (John 14:15,23)

'SERMON ON THE MOUNT' LIFESTYLE

The teaching Jesus shared with his disciples in Matthew 5-7 demonstrates what normal Christianity looks like

CORPORATE PRAYER AND WORSHIP

Whilst our personal intimacy with God is essential, He reveals himself in a unique way when we gather together. Corporate prayer and worship enables us to grow together in the knowledge of God and in living as lovers of God and people (Is 56:7; Matt 21:13)

BIBLICALLY-FUNCTIONING COMMUNITY

As people who are submitting to God’s leadership, we are growing as an intergenerational community who live out the ‘one another’ commands from the Bible. The greatest pursuit of true community is love, and this includes submitting to Christ-like leadership that is grounded in love and truth. Loving one another in the context of Christian community shows the world that we are Jesus’ followers (John 13:34-35; 1 Cor 12:12-31; Eph 4:11-15; Heb 10:24-25, also see the ‘one another’ commands)

INTERDEPENDENT RELATIONSHIP WITH THE GLOBAL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY

We are one part of the ‘body of Christ’ and desire to be faithful in our God-given assignment while giving and receiving support to and from our brothers and sisters across the earth (1 Cor 12:12-31; Eph 4:11-15)

THE COMPLETE EXPRESSION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT'S MINISTRY

We desire the corporate and personal activity of the Holy Spirit in us, as evidenced in demonstrations of power, the use of spiritual gifts, transformed character (fruit), and ongoing renewal (1 Cor 12-14; Gal 5:22-23; Acts 4:31, Jude 20)

SELF-RESPONSIBILITY

Every person is responsible before God for:

 i) developing intimacy with Jesus Christ

ii) co-operating with the Holy Spirit’s process of inner transformation towards Christ-likeness

iii) developing their giftedness set of natural abilities, acquired skills and spiritual gifts

iv) giving and receiving pastoral care

 v) building God-honouring relationships of integrity with all people

vi) making all their resources available for God’s purposes

(Matt 22:37; Gal 5:16; 1 Cor 14:1; also see list of ‘one another’ commands)

 MATURITY

God has given specific functions to some, and at least one gift of the Holy Spirit to every person in the Christian Community. These functions and gifts are designed by God to equip His people to work as a team to do His work in His way and enable people to grow up to be complete and mature in Jesus Christ (Eph 4:11-13; Rom 12; 1 Cor 12-14; Col 1:28)

ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE

Eternity is our reality therefore we are setting our hearts and minds on the things of eternal value, knowing that this life with its joys and challenges can be likened to an apprenticeship preparing us for eternal glory in the Kingdom of God (2 Cor 4:16-18; Col 3:1-2; John 17:3)

GENEROSITY

Generosity is a defining characteristic of His people because God is the ultimate generous joyful giver. Doing money God’s way empowers us to learn to trust in God’s faithful provision, to provide for those called to God’s vocational workforce, the persecuted Christian community and the poor. We ensure that all our financial dealings will honour God. We want a testimony of God’s marvelous provision and hence we value the freedom of relying totally on His provision for our needs

THE END OF INJUSTICE

Because of our allegiance to Jesus as the Just One, we are a people partnering with God to help the poor and the vulnerable and to bring an end to injustice in our society (Luke 18:7-8; Mic 6:8; Prov 31:8-9; Is 42:1-4)

PREPARATION OF THE NEXT GENERATION

We are living in the end-times and the generation that will see the second coming of the Messiah must be equipped to stand firm amidst the great glory and crisis that will precede Jesus’ return (1 Thes 5:1-5; Matt 24)

REMEMBERING GOD'S STORY BY KEEPING GOD’S CALENDAR

We celebrate God’s set-apart days and festivals (outlined in Lev 23) because they connect us to God’s story and cause us to see the beauty of who He is. Scripture and history reveal that these days and festivals are a prophetic gift to help us understand God’s past, present and future activity in the earth (Lev 23; Zech 14:16; 1 Cor 5:7-8)

SUPPORTING THE PERSECUTED CHURCH

The Bible commissions us to invest prayer and finance to support believers around the world who are being persecuted because they follow Jesus (Gal 6:10; Matt 25:34-40)

GOD'S CONTINUING PURPOSES FOR ISRAEL

Because the Bible reveals that the Jewish people have a central and ongoing role in the establishment of God’s Kingdom on the earth, we are committed to praying for the salvation of Israel and to standing with Jewish people against anti-Semitism (Rom 9-11; Matt 23:39)

Statement of Belief

We endorse the historic Christian affirmations contained in the Nicene Creed and the Apostles’ Creed.

As followers of Jesus, there's more to what we believe than these creeds. If you'd like to find out what and why, please drop in and ask.
