WE BELIEVE that God is the Eternal King. He is an infinite, unchangeable Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, goodness, justice, power and love. For all eternity He exists as the One Living and True God in three persons of one substance, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory.
WE BELIEVE that God’s kingdom is everlasting. From His throne, through His Son, Jesus Christ, God created, upholds and governs all that exists: the heavenly places, the angelic beings, the universe, the earth and every living thing. God created all things excellent in every way.
WE BELIEVE that Satan, originally a good angel, rebelled against God. He was cast out of God’s presence and, as an usurper of God’s rule and with an army of rebellious angels (demons), established a counter-kingdom of darkness and evil on earth.
WE BELIEVE that God created people in His likeness, similar in nature, intellect, characteristics and will, both male and female, for relationship with Himself and to populate, to govern and to enjoy the earth. Choosing to yield to the temptation of Satan, our original parents, Adam and Eve rebelled against God and destroyed their relationship with God, thus bringing bondage, sickness and God’s judgment of death to the earth. Through this rebellion, Satan and his demonic army gained legal access to God’s creation. Creation now experiences the consequences and effects of Adam and Eve’s original rebellion and, as a result, people are born with a predisposition to rebel against God, are subject to God’s judgment of death and are captive to Satan’s counter-kingdom of darkness.
WE BELIEVE that God did not abandon His rule over the earth, which He continues to uphold by His divine provision. In order to rescue us from our rebellion, free us from captivity and judgment and restore our relationship with Himself, God established covenants that reveal His undeserved favour (grace) to rebellious people.
WE BELIEVE that in a covenant with Abraham, God bound Himself to Abraham, to His chosen people Israel, and to their descendants. He promised to deliver from captivity and bless all people through Abraham’s descendants. This covenant is the foundation of all God’s covenants with His people and is the one purpose to all that God has done and will continue to do until the end of history.
WE BELIEVE that God, by His mighty acts, later freed His people from captivity in Egypt and established another covenant with them through Moses, revealing His law and Israel's obligation to fulfil it. Israel's submission to God's law was intended to show all people how to flourish in God's ways and to make us conscious of our moral responsibility. The law reveals the extent of our rebellion and our incapability of obedience to it, even when specifically written down by God.
WE BELIEVE that when Israel rejected God’s rule over her as King, God established the monarchy in Israel and made an unconditional covenant with King David. This covenant promised that one of David’s future descendants would eventually restore God’s rule over His people, reigning forever as King.
WE BELIEVE that, as our rebellious race is incapable of fulfilling God’s law and our moral responsibility when left to ourselves, God made a New Covenant with humanity. In this New Covenant, God promised to provide forgiveness for our rebellion, write His law in our inner being, regenerate us and enable us through the Holy Spirit to live in a manner consistent with the character of God. The New Contract supersedes the contract with Moses that humanity was unable to fulfil.
WE BELIEVE that in the fullness of time, God honoured these covenants and fulfilled His prophetic promises of freedom (salvation) from captivity by sending His only Son, Jesus the Christ (Messiah), into the world. Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit in Mary, a virgin, and was born as both fully God and fully man in one person. Jesus Christ was divinely appointed by God as King and empowered for service by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ lived a life of perfect submission to God the Father, free from rebellion. In this obedient perfect life, he fulfilled the requirements of God’s law. In His death on the cross He became the perfect sacrifice, thus abolishing the need for sacrifices as required in the law. He made amends for humanity’s rebellion and voluntarily took on himself God’s judgment which all people rightly deserve as rebellious law-breakers. This fulfilled the requirements of God’s contract through Moses. After dying for the rebellion of the world, Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, victorious, providing a way of release from bondage to Satan and the fear of death. This fulfilled God’s contract of blessing through Abraham.
Jesus Christ’s birth from King David’s ancestry, both physically and legally, His divine ministry, His glorious resurrection from the dead, His ascent into heaven and His present rule at the right hand of God the Father fulfils the requirements of God’s contract through King David. As God’s Son and David’s heir, Jesus Christ is the eternal and Divine King, re-establishing the kingdom of God on earth and advancing God’s kingdom reign throughout every generation and the whole world today.
Through His life, death and resurrection, Jesus Christ fulfilled these contracts, disarmed the demonic powers and provided for the legal restoration to humanity of the delegated authority stolen by Satan and for the restoration of access to a relationship with God the Father.
WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ inaugurated the Christian Community, comprising of His submitted followers, as the legal representatives of His kingdom on the earth. God the Holy Spirit was poured out in power on the Christian Community during the feast of Pentecost, sealing believers into the Community of Christ and empowering them to be witnesses of Jesus Christ throughout the world.
WE BELIEVE that the Holy Spirit indwells and empowers every person submitted to Jesus Christ’s rule and authority and is our permanent Helper, Teacher, and Guide. Submission to the Holy Spirit produces inner transformation towards Christ-likeness, builds up the Christian Community and equips us to serve God in this world. The empowering of the Holy Spirit, often a conscious experience, is essential for Christian living today.
WE BELIEVE that all members of the Christian Community are called to obey Jesus Christ in everything, just as Jesus obeyed the Father in everything He said and did. This obedience will include following Jesus' command for water baptism (believer's) signifying we have died to our old way of living and been raised to live a life of obedience to Him. Obedience will also include participating regularly in the Feast of Jesus (Communion), which was specifically inaugurated by Jesus as the way his followers would remember the price He paid for their forgiveness and freedom.
WE BELIEVE that the Holy Spirit inspired the human authors of the Holy Bible so that it is without error in the original manuscripts. We receive the sixty-six books of the Old Testament (Old Covenants) and the New Testament (New Covenant) as our final, absolute authority, the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
WE BELIEVE that Satan rules a counter-kingdom of rebellion against God on earth and deception against humanity. This counter-kingdom is any belief system that does not recognise and submit to Jesus Christ as the One True and Only God, as Satan desires to be worshipped and prevent people worshipping God. All people are rebellious against God’s rule in their lives by nature and by choice and belong to Satan’s counter-kingdom. All people therefore are under God’s just judgment.
Through the proclamation of the message of Jesus Christ, the demonstration of the Kingdom of God and the work of the Holy Spirit, the kingdom of Satan is driven back, demonic powers opposed, and their legal right to hold people prisoners removed. The Holy Spirit convicts us of our rebellion and of God’s righteous judgment against us, and leads us to Jesus Christ alone for freedom (salvation) from captivity. Through the work of Jesus Christ, all who repent of their rebellion and submit to Jesus' rule as their Lord and Saviour are spiritually regenerated by God, restored into relationship with Himself, adopted as His children and the process of transformation into Christ-likeness initiated. By this they are released from Satan’s counter-kingdom and enter into God’s kingdom.
WE BELIEVE in one global Christian Community under the authority of Jesus Christ, comprising of many local Christian Communities. All who have turned away from their rebellion and submitted to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour are automatically members of the Christian Community.
WE BELIEVE that God’s Kingdom has been revealed in the activity of Jesus Christ, that it continues to be revealed in the activity of the Holy Spirit through the Christian Community and that it will be consummated in the glorious, visible and triumphant appearing of Jesus Christ by His physical return to the earth as King. After Jesus Christ returns to reign, He will bring about the final defeat of Satan, the complete destruction of Satan’s counter-kingdom of darkness, the resurrection of the dead, the restoration of creation, the final judgment and the eternal blessings of His submitted followers, and eternal conscious punishment of the rebellious. Finally, God will be All in All and His Kingdom and His rule and reign will be fulfilled in the new heavens and the new earth, created by His mighty power. In the new heavens and the new earth He will be worshipped forever.
